Clinic and its hardhsips

So we started clinic already and there are a couple things I have been struggling with. First; fulcruming on the upper teeth. I know we are supposed to fulcrum on the same arch as the specific tooth we are working on, but having that stability is hard for some reason. I have been trying to practice my fulcrum with my pencil, but its not the same thing. Another problem I am having is the chair positioning. I am right handed and I know the quadrants I need to be in when working on anterior and posterior teeth, but trying to get all the way in the back, the molars, is a little difficult. I either end up having angel wings or I am bending too far down to try to see back there. If there are any suggestions please let me know. I need help!!!!!!!

  1. It's nice to know I am not the only one having problems with fulcruming. Ms. Houchins showed me a technique that has been working better for me, although I by no means have perfected it: when working on facial posteriors, for example, try fulcruming on the linguals of the same arch. This goes for any tooth you are working on, just trying fulcruming on the opposite surface. After trying it a few times I feel like it gives me more stability. As far as chair positioning, I have no advice! I am in the same boat as you hun! Try the fulcrum idea in clinic tomorrow. Hope it helps! :)

  3. I always have problems fulcruming. I still find myself losing it from time to time, especially when I am polishing. I think it's becasue the hand piece is so clunky and huge. I tend to forget that I have to fulcrum. Ms. Swecker always gets on me about it. I also never even knew that we had to do an extra oral fulcrum. Honestly I still don't think I ever have used one. Aside from the fulcrum, positioning is something I did feel great at until we started with patients. It's like I forgot all of a sudden! I guess it was just nerves or something. I am hoping all of this will come together by next sememster. Good luck!
